Opened in 2001, Craigielaw is East Lothian's modern addition to the endless choice of links. Designed by respected golf architect Donald Steel, the course was carefully crafted to blend with its coastal surroundings, and it has matured beautifully over more than two decades into one of the region's most enjoyable and accessible rounds. Its greens are among the fastest and most consistently prepared in East Lothian, and its coastal setting means the Firth of Forth is a near-constant companion throughout the round.
Craigielaw was built on traditional linksland between Longniddry and Aberlady, on land with a long agricultural and coastal heritage. Designer Donald Steel worked to maximise the natural undulations and sea views, incorporating traditional bunkering and green designs inspired by the classic East Lothian courses nearby. Since opening it has established a strong reputation for quality, value and relaxed hospitality — particularly popular with groups and societies.
Craigielaw is one of those courses that makes everyone in the group happy. It is challenging enough to satisfy low-handicappers but playable and enjoyable for all levels. After a day at Muirfield or North Berwick, it provides the perfect complement to a multi-course tour — high quality golf without the intensity.
