Perched on Gullane Hill overlooking the Firth of Forth, Gullane No.1 is a traditional links course with some of the most panoramic views in world golf. On a clear day, the Kingdom of Fife, Edinburgh Castle, and the mountains beyond are all visible from the higher holes. The course itself matches the view — a demanding, beautifully crafted links test with fast, true greens and classic undulating fairways that reward every form of the game.
Golf has been played on Gullane Hill since 1650, making it one of the longest-running golfing sites in the world. The current Gullane Golf Club was formally established in 1884. Gullane No.1 has served as an Open Championship qualifier venue and hosted the Scottish Open in 2015 and 2016. The club also hosts Gullane No.2 and No.3, making it one of the great multi-course clubs in Scotland.
Gullane No.1 rewards those who play it. The climb up the hill sets up one of the great golf moments in Scotland — reaching the summit and seeing the entire Lothian coastline spread out before you. It is one of those courses guests are always grateful we included, and often one of the first they recommend to friends.
